I consider myself a practical yogi. Through nearly a lifetime of practicing Classical Hatha Yoga, Kundalini Yoga and Naad Yoga, I have learned that yoga – or ‘union’ – is a continuous act of developing self-awareness and self-refinement. Yoga is not simply the practice of physical postures, meditation, chanting, and breath work. The practice of yoga extends into all things in our lives – relationships, communication, work, play, living, and dying. Yoga is a continuous act of living well and relaxing deeply into ‘what is’. It is from this fundamental place and perspective that I teach and play music.
Naad Yoga and Sound Healing
Naad Yoga – the Science of Sound and Communication – is my core passion and expertise. I deeply enjoy training yogis in the science of Naad Yoga, conscious communication, and how to access the beauty and power of their personal voice. Through many years of teaching sound and mantra, I have become particularly adept at breaking it down for students and opening the practice of sound and mantra to be less mysterious and more satisfying, accessible, and enjoyable.
Currently, I offer Naad Yoga courses in various locations throughout the world and via the Internet, either one-on-one or with groups. I am in the process developing specific curriculum and courses in the practice of sound and mantra. Check out my event schedule for current offerings or contact me if you’re interested in studying with me.
Mantra Concerts and Events
When I’m out and about, I like to offer evening mantra events. I recently found my way back to the concert/workshop format that I most enjoy and that I developed through many years of leading community chanting at the Santa Fe Community Yoga Center. This type of event is part workshop, part concert where we all chant and explore and enjoy sound and mantra together. It is great fun, relaxing, and enriching to go with the flow in these events.
Dev Suroop and the D-Town Jios, a group of rock and roll musicians who I love to work with in Denver, are gearing up for a round of upbeat concerts. In November of 2010, we did a series of concerts in Denver that were great fun and we’re looking to take that concert format further.
